SERVE

Following Jesus means learning to live generously. Whether you help make Sundays happen or serve with one of our community partners, at Bread we’re focused on finding practical ways to offer what you have to others.

Volunteer at Bread

There are lots of ways to serve at Bread, from helping make Sundays happen to serving alongside our community partners across Hollywood.

Our volunteer teams include Sunday Hosts, Welcome and Connections, Coffee, Kids Church, Worship, Lyrics and Slides, Parking, and Serve the City.

Whether you already know how you’d like to help or you’re simply open to getting involved, we’d love to hear from you. Tell us a little about your interests and availability, and we’ll help you find a place to start.

Community Lunches

On the first Sunday of each month, we host a free lunch in the church parking lot and we’d love for you to join us.

After church, at around noon, we share a meal with some of our unhoused neighbors because good food is better together. Come hungry, come ready to connect, or help us prepare and serve the meal as we build community around the table.

Next Lunch: Sunday, October 4th

Covenant House Craft Nights

Covenant House provides shelter, support and a path toward independence for young people experiencing homelessness and trafficking here in Hollywood.

On the first and third Mondays of each month, a team from Bread spends the evening making things with residents, talking, mentoring and, most importantly, building relationships. We’re looking for committed volunteers who can show up consistently and become familiar, trusted faces.

Coming up: Covenant House BBQ
Wednesday, September 23, 6–8pm

Olive Crest Support Team

Olive Crest works with children and families in crisis across Los Angeles, helping strengthen families and provide safe, stable homes for vulnerable children.

Members of Bread have registered as host families through Olive Crest’s Safe Families program, offering children a safe, temporary home while their parents work through a crisis. We’re building a support team around them.

For instance, a simple way to help is to invite a host family to Sunday lunch after church. It’s a practical way to support those serving, share the load, and help create a wider community of welcome.

Harvest Home

Harvest Home provides housing and holistic support for pregnant women experiencing homelessness, helping mothers and their babies build lives of stability and independence.

Several members of the Bread community work for Harvest Home, and each Christmas our congregation collects gifts and essential items for the families they support. We’re continuing to deepen this partnership and explore new ways for Bread to serve alongside them throughout the year.

The Hollywood Hub at SDA

Hollywood Seventh-day Adventist Church, where Bread gathers on Sundays, is also home to the Hollywood Hub, a community resource serving people experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity in Los Angeles.

The Hub offers showers, laundry, meals, clothing, case management, housing navigation and, on select days, medical and dental care. If you or someone you know could use support, or if you’re interested in volunteering, partnering or giving, you can find more information on the Hub’s website.

LOVE, TO GO

We believe the love we encounter in Jesus is meant to move outward: into our church, our neighborhoods and our city. Serving doesn’t have to be grand. It begins by showing up, offering what we have and learning to love our neighbors well.

Not sure where to begin? Tell us what you’re interested in, and we’ll help you find a place to serve.
