OUR FAITH
We believe that the good news of Jesus Christ — His life, death, resurrection and ascension — changes everything. We believe He is alive and at work in the world today, and that the invitation of the Christian life is not simply to believe in Him, but to follow Him. This means daily opening ourselves to the work of His Spirit within and amongst us, and participating in what He is doing.
We are a non-denominational church, but we don’t stand alone. We are one small part of a much bigger, beautifully diverse, global and historic Church. We hold to the historic Christian faith expressed in the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds, and we want to learn from the wisdom of Christians who have followed Jesus across centuries, cultures and traditions.
WHAT SHAPES US?
SCRIPTURE
We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and our authority for faith and life. We take Scripture seriously. Our goal isn’t just to know it, but to let it form us into people who increasingly look like Jesus.
SPIRIT
We believe the Holy Spirit is present and active today. We expect God to speak, heal, comfort, convict, empower and transform. We believe in the gifts of the Spirit described in the New Testament, and that everyone gets to play: the Spirit works through all of us, not just a gifted few. We try to make room for Him in the ordinary life of our church — in worship, prayer, community and mission. We want to be naturally supernatural: expectant that God moves, without hype or performance.
TRANSFORMATIONAL GOOD NEWS
Jesus announced the good news of God’s peaceable future breaking into the present, and called His Church to participate in what He is doing now. That means we live with both faithful expectation for miraculous power in healing, deliverance, restoration and justice, and it means we grieve with Him for all the ways our world still lacks those things.
WHAT IF I DISAGREE?
Jesus prayed that His Church would be one. Two thousand years later, it’s pretty clear He didn’t mean we would all agree about everything! Bread is home to people from different backgrounds, traditions, political opinions and theological perspectives. We don’t expect everyone in our community to be aligned on all beliefs, and we don’t think Christian unity requires us to. We want to be a family who is united through Jesus, but OK with difference.
The best way to figure out if we’re the church for you is to join us on a Sunday. If you’re concerned any of this means you’ll be excluded, here is a letter of welcome for you.
Whether you’ve followed Jesus for decades, are returning to faith, are full of questions, or aren’t sure what you believe — you are welcome to come and discover Him with us.
